The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and the city of San Bernardino unveiled Dodgers Dreamfields 61, 62 and 63 at Blair Park on Saturday, May 18th. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation is closer to its goal of 75 fields by 2033 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Dodgers’ move to Los Angeles. (INT)

A suspected DUI motorist is suspected of causing a deadly head-on collision in Murrieta. The late Wednesday (May 15th) crash fatally injured a passenger, Belinda Baliton, 73, of Murrieta. (INT)

At Lake Arrowhead, a murder investigation has been launched into a man’s death on Lakes Edge Road. Sheriff’s investigators have been tight-lipped but say they have detained a Twin Peaks man in connection with the incident Tuesday (May 14th). (INT)

Fire restrictions are being ramped up in the deserts of Riverside, San Bernardino and parts of seven other counties. Among the limitations is recreational target shooting which is prohibited. There are also restrictions on campfires, controlled flame devices, target shooting and smoking. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has found that 95 percent of desert wildfires are human-caused. The BLM is imposing the restrictions effective May 22nd. (INT)

Rialto firefighters have red-tagged one their own fire stations. Police said the building was severely damaged when a suspected DUI driver lost control on South Willow Avenue and the vehicle crashed into the building Saturday night (May 11th). The injured driver is under arrest but was not publicly identified. (INT)

An Orange County man was convicted Friday (May 10th) of soliciting investors in companies that marketed what in fact were a bogus cure and treatment for COVID-19.
Keith Lawrence Middlebrook, 56, of Huntington Beach, a part-time actor, was found guilty during a 3-day trial. Middlebrook posted text messages, videos and statements posted on YouTube and Instagram about his purported cure for COVID-19. Middlebrook called this so-called cure “QC20.” (INT)

California’s clean energy future looks a little brighter.
The state has reached 10-thousand megawatts of battery storage which is essential to maintaining a clean and reliable power grid. Storing solar electricity during the day keeps it flowing in the evening hours. California planners are aiming for 100% clean energy by 2045. (INT)

Assessed property values across California have soared to 8-point-3 trillion dollars or more than 6 percent over the past year. The State Board of Equalization reports that resulting property tax revenue generated 89-billion dollars distributed among schools, counties, cities and special districts. (INT)

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) has approved a contract for the Cajon Pass I-15 Bypass Study. It focus is to find an alternative route during emergencies that force the closure of the Cajon Pass. The most likely candidates are State Route 247 through the High Desert and State Route 62 via Twentynine Palms. (INT)

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is reaching out for help in finding a motorist who led deputies in a bullet-punctuated chase through Jurupa Valley. Martin Perez, Jr., 30, eluded deputies for a traffic violation. He abandoned his vehicle in the dense undergrowth of the Santa Ana Riverbottom and disappeared. Perez has not been seen since May 14th. Investigators say he may be in San Bernardino. (INT)

Four members of a Riverside County family are suspected of at least ten thefts from retail stores throughout the Southland. A search warrant took sheriff’s investigators to Jurupa Valley where they found thousands of dollars of merchandise with the price tags still affixed. Investigators followed up at the homes of accomplices who knowingly bought stolen goods with the intent to resell them for profit. (INT)

A woman stopped while driving along Interstate 10 near Indio with 90 pounds of fentanyl pills claimed she was headed to Los Angeles to purchase clothing for resale in Mexico. Federal authorities said the woman was with her young son. Adriana Galindo, 34, is a U.S. citizen living in Mexico but is now facing federal charges in Riverside. (INT)

Family violence has sent a Chino man to the morgue and his step-son to jail. No one else was involved in the shooting Monday (May 13th) at an apartment complex on Riverside Drive. (INT)

A variety of service changes are in place for Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) busses. The RTA has adjusted several routes to increase frequency, enhance connections, provide access to more destinations and improve on-time performance. The changes were effective on May 12th. The RTA has posted thirty-two straight months of increasing ridership. (INT)

Reconstructing the Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge over the BNSF railyards in San Bernardino is shifting to the superstructure stage. Pre-cast wall sections for the approach are being put in place. Erecting girders for the Third Street superstructure will require a 2-day closure of Third Street beginning May 28th. (INT)

A ground lease agreement has been approved for construction of a new fire station that will serve the Wildwood Park neighborhood and surrounding areas in San Bernardino. County Fire will lease approximately one acre on the southern portion of the Arrowhead Elementary School property. (INT)
