Smog labels go green SOUTHLAND--MPG isn’t the only comparison new car shoppers who took advantage of the “Cash for Clunkers” program are making. A new law advances California’s “Go Green” initiative.
Every new car sold is ranked for its environmental impact. A label has two scores on a scale of 1-to-10. One is a smog score and the other a global warming score. Ten is the best environmentally friendly vehicle and five is average. A consumer website, WWW.DRIVECLEAN.CA.GOV, lists information on the cleanest, most-efficient cars on the market.
