Sheep firefighting costs climbing, end in sight
WRIGHTWOOD--The cost to save this mountain community from the Sheep Fire has been expensive.

The fire suppression bill has already exceeded $7.5 million. Crystal Johnson of the U.S. Forest Service says their work in the rugged terrain isn’t over yet because of “the timber and heavy brush. We are looking at a few days of some hard work.”

As many as 2,000 firefighters were deployed to stop the flames at the outskirts of Wrightwood.

Fire lines have been dug around 85 percent of the 7,100 acre burn area. Containment is expected Saturday.

Five buildings, including one home, and four recreational vehicles were destroyed. (INT)
