California preps for largest earthquake drill REDLANDS--Six-point-4 million Californians are signed up for Thursday’s annual earthquake Shake-Out drill.
Kathleen Springer, senior curator at the San Bernardino County Museum, says the San Andreas Fault is not something we think about once a year. “It’s right in our backyard. Those mountains are there, earthquake-by-earthquake, because of it. Even through it’s been quiet for a while, a large earthquake in an inevitability.” She urges everyone to set aside their complacency.. “The drop, cover, hold-on drill is what you need to do when an earthquake occurs. That can mitigate personal loss and property loss.” The museum’s ShakeOut begins Thursday morning at nine. (INT) Story Date: October 15, 2009
