Inland Empire adds new telephone area code
PALM SPRINGS--The Inland Empire’s newest telephone area code is about to make its permanent debut.
Telephone and cell phone users in area 760 will be affected. If they want to dial a local number, they will have to add 760 for a total of 11 digits. Verizon spokesman Don Davies says new subscribers will be the first to get the new area code. “Starting a month from now, we will be assigning numbers with the 442 area code.” Only portions of San Diego County will get the new area code. Current area 760 subscribers in Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial, Inyo and Mono counties will keep their number. They will just have to dial 760 when dialing a local number.
