Pit bull kills boy in backyard attack
APPLE VALLEY--A 3-year-old High Desert boy is the fatal victim of dog mauling attack.

Authorities say that Omar Martinez was attacked by a pit bull after he was momentarily left alone in his backyard in Apple Valley. Paramedics responded to a 911 call of a child not breathing, but retreated because of the dog’s aggressiveness. Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed the dog.

Omar was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but could not be revived.

In recent years, a woman and a child were attacked and killed by dogs in the Barstow area. Three men were fatally mauled in separate incidents in Rancho Mirage, Rubidoux and Phelan. (INT)
