Negligence ruled out in fatal dog-mauling APPLE VALLEY--Investigators have found no evidence of negligence and have concluded that the dog-mauling death of a 3-year-old boy in his backyard was a misfortunate incident.
Officials don’t know what prompted the family’s pit bull to attack the boy. Rabies tests are underway. The father of Omar Martinez had briefly stepped into his house last Saturday afternoon and said the dog had no history of aggressiveness. Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed the animal when they arrived at the Martinez home. The incident was one of five fatal dog attacks in the Inland Empire since 2006.
