Washington trip not 'bailout' request
WASHINGTON – Two of California’s Democratic legislative leaders are trying to rake up more money for the state.

Assembly Speaker John Perez is hoping to get some help in dealing with the state’s budget crisis.

“We think we can call on the federal government for more assistance in a legitimate way to help us close our budget gap and make sure that California gets its full fair share of federal funding for our programs.”

Accompanying Perez on his Washington, DC visit is Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

Both men are careful to avoid calling their request a ‘bailout’. (INT)
