Forest Service preps for fall fire season
LAKE GREGORY – More firefighters, aircraft and extended patrols are at the ready as the wildfire season reaches a peak in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Spokesman John Miller says piles of fallen trees are being removed from the Lake Gregory area.

“That material is being taken out of the mountains by helicopter. A lot will be recycled for landscaping material and some will be sent to co-generation plants and converted to electricity.”

Meantime, logging of trees killed by bark beetles continues near Green Valley, Fawnskin and in areas where the Butler-2 and Slide fires occurred 3-years ago. (INT)
