Some Loma Linda gardeners eat better, save money
LOMA LINDA--Some Loma Linda residents are eating healthier while fighting rising food costs.

A community garden is nestled in a neighborhood where apartment complexes serve as the main form of housing.

Joanne Heilman at city hall says that water and tools are also provided for the garden on Van Leuven Street.

“There are a lot of benefits to gardening like physical activity, fresher produce at a low cost and it builds relationships among the neighbors and the residents there,” she said.

At the Loma Linda senior center, gardeners are getting what they need too, including user-friendly planting beds and ergonomic tools.

Zucchini, tomatoes, and bell peppers require little care and save the most money.
