Passings: Two former SB City Council members
SAN BERNARDINO – Two former members of the City Council are being remembered as pioneers in their own right.

Norris Gregory, Jr. and Valerie Pope-Ludlam have died within 3-days of each other. Both served the Sixth Ward for a combined total of 17 years.

Rikke Van Johnson, the current 6th Ward councilman, notes that Mr. Gregory was the city’s first black council member.

“He came to represent our community at a time when we needed a strong black leader. Ms. Pope-Ludlam was the first black female council member in San Bernardino. During her tenure, she always looked out for the least of us.”

She died last Sunday at a hospital in Brea. Her funeral will be Tuesday at the Temple Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Gregory was 85 when he died at his San Bernardino home. A Celebration of Life was held Thursday at the Arrowhead Elks Lodge. (INT)
