Freeway bridge demolition set
RIALTO – Demolition of the half-century-old Riverside Avenue overcrossing on Interstate 10 begins late Friday night.

Tim Watkins at SANBAG says commuters will welcome its replacement.

“We’re replacing the 5-lane bridge with a 9-lane overcrossing. The on-and-off ramps will be widened to 3-lanes. We’ll have ramp-metering to help manage the traffic on the freeway.”

That portion of the old Riverside Avenue bridge above the westbound lanes will be demolished first followed by the eastbound lanes next weekend. All work will be wrapped up by 7am the following day. (INT)
