Blurring the lines between entertainment and news
LOS ANGELES – NBC may be shopping for a new host for the ‘Today’ show when Matt Lauer’s contract expires next year. And the choice may further blurr the lines between entertainment and news.

Entertainment Editor Bob Sokolsky says Lauer’s replacement may be Ryan Seacrest, an MC of assorted shows over the years and radio DJ.

“Nothing against Ryan, but where are we going with this? Are we news? Are we entertainment. Is it making much difference when you look at the closing shots of every network newscast, you have to wonder what’s going on now?”

Sokolsky says Seacrest hasn’t done news, but his name appears on a short list as the co-anchor to replace Lauer. (INT)
