Freeway shooting snarls Route 91
CORONA – Authorities are trying to determine why a motorist involved in a minor accident on the Route 91 freeway was carrying a gun and refused to drop it before lawmen killed him.
Gary Dean Heil, 59, of Orange had been involved in a minor accident. First responders found Heil holding a gun as he stood next to a Porsche.
When police and California Highway Patrol officers pulled up, Heil pointed the gun at them. He was brought down in a hail of gunfire.
No one else was injured, but eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed for nine hours for an on-scene investigation. (INT)
