Thief blamed for Fontana power blackout
FONTANA – (INT) – The electrocution of a would-be copper wire thief explains an early Monday morning power failure.

Robert Buchanan, 26, of San Bernardino was armed with a pair of bolt cutters trying to remove wires from a power pole adjacent to the Metrolink tracks.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said “Mr. Buchanan was electrocuted and died at the scene. Damage to the wires caused a large blackout in the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Southern California Edison crews responded and made repairs.
