Winds, funnel cloud, rain interrupt heat wave
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Chances of the intense weekend storms that pummeled parts of Riverside County and the High Desert will gradually lessen as the heat wave eases.

Electricity is being restored to the Lakeview-Nuevo area east of Perris. Straight line winds toppled more than a dozen utility poles and snapped power lines Sunday afternoon.

A funnel cloud was spotted west of Perris, but did not touch ground. There were numerous reports of lightning strikes.

On Saturday, lightning damaged a home in Hemet. The same storm was accompanied by high winds, hail and a half-inch of rain at Perris.

Storms are continuing their afternoon assaults on the Morongo Basin, the High Desert and on Big Bear and mountain resort communities along Highway 38.

There have been no storm-related injuries.
