Heat wave tests power grid's performance
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – The heat wave is putting Southern California’s power grid to the test.

But, ‘brown outs’ are not likely.

Southern California Edison's Darryl Ryan says there are ‘ample’ supplies of electricity to keep air conditioning units humming.

“We’ve been working on a contingency plan for months. It has four main components: transmission, generation, conservation and outreach.”

The San Onofre nuclear generating plant has been off-line since January. But, a generating plant at Huntington beach is cranking out the kilowatts.

Peaker plants throughout the Inland Empire were expected to have been pressed into service, but SoCal Edison could not say how many.
