Call to end jailhouse hostilities
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – A coalition of groups rallied outside the Presley Detention Center Wednesday calling for an end to racial hostilities inside California’s lockups.

Organizer Danae Tapia says it’s a troubling, ongoing problem that has occasionally flared into violence.

“Our call is to all those inside the state’s 33 prisons and hundreds of county jails. That’s why where here in front of the detention center here in Riverside.”

Tapia pleaded for an end to hostilities there, at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail and at the Pelican Bay State Prison in Northern California.

The rally came just days after a riot at the Ironwood State Prison near Blythe.
