Student slain in officer-involved shooting, campus shaken
INLAND EMPIRE - (INT) – Officer-involved shootings have left two people dead, but a suspect in another avoided capture.

A graduate student at Cal State San Bernardino was killed late Saturday in a confrontation with campus police. Officers had responded to a disturbance call at an off-campus student housing complex when they encountered Bartholomew Williams in a dorm hallway.

There was an altercation as Williams tried to disarm at least one officer. Williams was fatally shot. Investigators say he was bi-polar and had not taken his medication.

CSUSB President Tomás Morales said "It is a tragic day for the Cal State San Bernardino community. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Williams' family."

“This also is a very difficult time for our University Police Department and the three officers who responded to the scene and performed their best to assure the safety of the campus community,” Morales said. “Our hearts and prayers go out to these officers and their families. This is an unprecedented event at CSUSB, one in which reaches all corners of university family,” Morales said.

Cal State San Bernardino is offering counseling services and support to those affected by this event.

In Moreno Valley Sunday night, a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man holding a weapon inside a house on Perris Boulevard. The officer had responded to a 911 call after the caller hung up.

And in Riverside, a motorist who’d tried to run another off the road shot at sheriff’s deputies during a foot chase and eluded them. No one was injured.
