Anti-swatting bill makes progress
SACRAMENTO - (INT) – A bill is making its way through the legislative hoops at Sacramento that cracks down on those who falsely report emergencies.

Senator Ted Lieu of Torrance says the bogus 911 calls endanger residents and law enforcement officers.

“My bill is an anti-swatting measure that imposes the full costs on the perpetrator for the full cost of a ‘swatting’ incident which could range from several thousand to over $10,000. That’s because law enforcement agencies typically dispatches a SWAT team or something similar.”

There have been numerous false reports of threats or invaders in the homes of numerous Southland residents including celebrities.
