Chino Hills power line ordered underground CHINO HILLS – (INT) – Opponents of a power transmission line are celebrating Thursday’s decision by the California Public Utilities Commission ordering that it be placed underground.
The CPUC declared that “The design of the above ground line effectively ignores community values and places an unfair and unreasonable burden on residents.” Currently, a 3.5 mile segment of the 500 kilovolt transmission line running through Chino Hills consists of massive 200-foot tall transmission towers, more than double the height of more common towers. The cost to put the cables underground is $224 million. CPUC President Michael Peevey said the commission’s decision “is the dawn of a new era in transmission line planning in this state”.
