Spectre of disincorporation rises over Jurupa Valley
JURUPA VALLEY – (INT) – Not since 1972 has an Inland Empire city disincorporated. But, it could happen again.

Recalls, resignations and controls on local gambling doomed Cabazon. It’s a lack of revenue that’s putting Jurupa Valley in dire straights.

Mayor Verne Lauritzen appears in a video and says his city’s future rests with state lawmakers.

“We’re not asking for a handout and no special consideration. We do ask the Governor and the state Legislature is to exercise good public policy in the way cities and local jurisdictions are equitably funded.”

Jurupa Valley officials want to decide the future of the 2-year-old city before its runs out of money.

That decision may have to come before the Legislature adjourns its current session.
