Historic iron bridge gets future assignment
HIGHLAND – (INT) – Initial work is beginning on replacing one of the Inland Empire’s most historic structures.

The aging ‘iron bridge’ over the Santa Ana River was originally built in 1912 in Victorville where it spanned the Mojave River. It was dissembled 21 years later and rebuilt on Greenspot Road in Highland.

It has withstood floods and accidents and will become part of a trails system for hikers and bicyclists.

Public Works Director Ernie Wong says it’ll take a year to build a new bridge for vehicular traffic.

“Other than that, the public should continue to travel on Greenspot Road like they always do.”

The replacement bridge is a $13 million project.
