NTSB probes survivability of truck-bus crash
ORLAND - Both drivers who perished in last week's truck-bus collision on Interstate 5 in Northern California had clean driving records with no history of violations.

Timothy Evans, 32, of Elk Grove, was driving a FedEx tractor trailer when it suddenly veered across the median, clipped a northbound car then smashed into the northbound bus packed with high school students. The DMV said the bus driver had no history of moving violations and had a valid license.

The cause of the incident is only part of the investigation.

Mark Rosekind of the National Transportation Safety Board says they want to know the survivability of the crash.

"We want to know if seat belts would have made a difference for those people who were ejected from the motor coach."

The late model bus was equipped with seat belts.

The NTSB is interviewing the survivors.

Conclusions and safety recommendations are not likely for several months.

A student from Norte Vista High School in Rverside and a chaperone from Rancho Cucamonga were among the ten people killed.
