Was the DA sign-tampering?
INDIO – Police are investigating a complaint that District Attorney Paul Zellerbach tampered with a campaign sign Wednesday.

A person, whom the Indio Police Department would not immediately identify, came into the police lobby and said Zellerbach was tampering with the sign about 10 a.m. at Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard, according to police spokesman Ben Guitron.

Guitron said that the police department has not received any physical evidence.

Zellerbach is running for re-election against Mike Hestrin.
A grainy video obtained by The Desert Sun newspaper shows a man in a white shirt touching a campaign sign.

"On Wednesday, while on my way to several speaking engagements and while stopped along the side of the road to check directions, I took the opportunity to post one of my campaign signs at a location where other signs were already posted," Zellerbach is quoted in a statement. "While doing so, I inadvertently backed into a Hestrin sign, knocking it over in the very sandy soil and windy conditions. The sign was immediately put back up and we went on our way, which is what you see in the video," Zellerbach stated.
