Baker thermometer gets new lease on life
BAKER – (INT) – The world’s tallest thermometer is again measuring some of the planet’s hottest temperatures.

At 134-feet, the thermometer invites travelers on busy Interstate 15 to take a break from the searing desert heat.

The thermometer, which is technically an electric sign, has been broken for years. But, Diana Romo at the Baker Community Services District says it’s come back to life.

“It lights up that dark spot in the middle of town. It’s been upgraded to LED lighting making its more energy efficient and it’s accurate.”

The Baker thermometer has become a landmark for travelers going to and from Las Vegas and stands near the southern entrance to Death Valley, one of the hottest places on Earth.
