Forecast keeps El Nino on the horizon
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – An updated outlook for an impending El Nino this winter keeps California in the window for some rain.

A moderate El Nino is likely to arrive this fall and early winter.

Climatologist Alex Tardy at the National Weather Service was asked what it would take to end the drought.

“We would need precipitation 150 percent of normal or slightly less than twice the average. This would have to be statewide to call it a drought-buster.”

Tardy cautions that it’s been 37-years since an El Nino was strong enough to break the last prolonged drought of the mid 1970’s.
