Rampant crime in Moreno Valley denied
MORENO VALLEY - (INT) – Recent shootings have heightened the perception of rampant crime in the city. But, officials say it isn’t so.

Councilman Richard Stewart represents an upscale area where a gunman recently killed two people and – apparently – himself.

“The sensational nature of some crimes takes the headlines. And, statistics reflect the overall trend. That trend is that overall crime is down," in fact by 7 percent last year.

About gangs in the city, Mayor Jesse Molina says “We know they exist and the police keeps them in check. They don’t terrorize the streets.”

Mayor Molina says when the city’s budget stabilizes, funding will be made available for special police operations and patrols.
