Amended indictment may stem unraveling of Colonies corruption case SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – Pretrial motions will resume Wednesday after a Superior Court judge ruled that prosecutors will get a second crack at the four defendants in the Colonies bribery case.
Judge Michael Smith says an indictment can be amended after deciding a statute of limitations issue. Last week, Judge Smith dismissed conspiracy allegations. Judge Smith has asked that the trial of developer Jeff Burum and three former county officials start no later than September 22nd. The quartet was indicted 3-years ago in a corruption case that led to a $102 million settlement paid by the county in a land development case. Story Date: July 30, 2014
