Sand fire nearer control, damage estimates rise
PLYMOUTH - Firefighters battling the Sand fire in Amador County’s wine country continue to make good progress despite hot weather.

Containment went to 80 percent Tuesday, according to Cal Fire.

With temperatures in the 90s in the foothills, hot, dry weather conditions remain a challenge for firefighters.

The fire broke out on Friday and is blamed on a vehicle igniting dry vegetation. Full containment is expected on Friday.

Acres burned: 3,800

Homes destroyed: 19 as damage assessment continues

Outbuildings destroyed: 47
