Break exposes fragile water delivery system WESTWOOD – (INT) – The damaging water main break near UCLA is giving officials a better idea of how vulnerable the city’s aging water delivery system is becoming.
Jeff Bray of the LA Department of Water and Power says that helps explain why it took nearly three hours Tuesday to shut-down the ruptured pipe. “The valves up and down Stone Canyon and on Sunset Boulevard are all very old. We’re dealing with very high water pressures in these valves.” UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero has assessed the flood damage inside Pauley Pavilion. “There’s no structural damage. It’s dry wall and carpeting that can be remedied.” Guerrero says he’d like to see the entire basketball floor replaced in time for the fall sports season. Story Date: August 4, 2014
