Dangerous surf subsides for holiday weekend MALIBU – (INT) – Scattered locations along the Southern California coastline took a beating from the onslaught of Hurricane Marie’s waves.
Beach erosion, flooded streets, water in surfside homes and hundreds of rescues were just a reminder of nature’s fury. At Malibu, the Cove House is in ruins. Lifeguard John Reagan said it was their headquarters for the past 40-years. “This building was built in the 50’s as the manager’s home for a trailer park that was here at Sycamore Cove.” It was swept away and broken up by the pounding surf. The towering waves hit 20-feet at ‘The Wedge’ in Newport Beach. They've since dropped to 5-8 feet, still good enough for some fun in the sun. Story Date: September 2, 2014
