U.S. opens new offensive in War on Terrorism The United States military has carried out an operation against the al-Shabab militant group in Somalia.
Witnesses said drones fired at least four missiles Monday in the Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, destroying two al-Shabab vehicles. There was no immediate confirmation of any casualties or whom the strikes were targeting. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed only that an operation had taken place and that the U.S. was "assessing the results." U.S. drone strikes have targeted al-Shabab leaders in the past, including in January, when an attack nearly hit the group's leader. (Source: voanews.com) Story Date: September 2, 2014
