UC Riverside glows in solar power
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – UC Riverside now boasts the largest solar power generating plant in the UC system.

Seven-thousand-700 panels covering more than 11-acres will be switched on Friday.

It’s a 3-megawatt photovoltaic, tracking system.

Physical Plant Director Ken Mueller says the campus will use all of the power generated saving more than $4 million over the next 20-years.

And, expansion is already being discussed “on rooftops and car ports as long as it’s consistent with the master plan,” Mueller said.

Riverside Public Utilities has been powering the UCR campus, but its share will drop to about 70 percent.
