Freeway train trestles in place GRAND TERRACE – (INT) – All four steel train trestles spanning the 215 freeway are in place.
The last has been lowered onto concrete piers winding up a herculean effort that began last spring. The bridges were fabricated on site. Caltrans Terri Kasinga says each span tips the scales at 1.1 million pounds. She gave this comparison: “They weigh 8-times what the space shuttle Endeavor weighed. The same company that moved the shuttle moved these bridges.” The trestles link BNSF’s main line between Riverside and Colton. They were necessary for widening of the 215 freeway.
