HOLLYWOOD - (INT) - Denzel Washington's 'The Equalizer' proved the actor's continuing popularity at the box office. It was the third-best opening of his career.

'The Equalizer" was also the top September opening for an R-rated movie.

'The Maze Runner' takes the Number 2 spot this week running its box office receipts to $149 million.

The Boxtrolls' was the week other new nationwide entry and Number three.

Shawn Levy's adult-skewing dramedy 'This Is Where I Leave You' came in at No. 4.
