Murrieta mayor resigns after DUI crash
MURRIETA – (INT) – Mayor Alan Long resigned Monday just four days after his arrest in a suspected DUI incident.

Long made the announcement Monday afternoon and said he was stepping down for the rest of his current term. His name will still appear on the November 4th ballot as a candidate for City Council.

Long, 44, was arrested after his full-sized pickup truck rear-ended a vehicle on Jefferson Avenue last Thursday night. A police department statement indicated that four Murrieta Valley High School students in the car were hurt.

Police said that long, who was alone, ‘had signs and symptoms consistent with alcohol impairment.’

Long was released after posting bail.

Mayor Long was seen on national television last July during a citizen protest over the processing of illegal immigrants in Murrieta. Many of those aboard buses that were eventually turned away were children from Central America.
