Solar eclipse treats skywatchers
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – Clear skies gave skywatchers a front row seat for Thursday’s partial eclipse of the sun.

At the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, Director Dr. Ed Krupp was on hand as the peak of the eclipse approached.

“The sun is still shining brightly. You will see the moon’s disc encroach onto the bright disc of the sun and block more and more of it out until the sun looks like a fat crescent.”

Only about a third of the sun was covered.

A total eclipse is more exciting. Parts of the US will be treated to one in August 2017.
