HUD: California homelessness declines
New estimates suggest that homelessness is on the decline.

The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development says it declined 7 percent in California the past four years. The number of homeless military veterans is also down.

California accounts for 20 percent of the nation’s total. The state’s largest cities have the biggest numbers including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose.

Riverside County had 2,945, according to HUD.
