Ex-mayor hit with felony DUI charges MURRIETA – (INT) – Prosecutors have filed a felony DUI case against former mayor Alan Long.
It stems from an October 16th incident in which his full-sized truck rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped to make a left turn. Four Murrieta Valley High School students were injured. Police had initially said Long’s breathalyzer test came back at point-07. But in a statement issued Thursday, the DA said it was point-08. That is California’s legal limit under which a driver is presumed to be impaired. The incident has cast a shadow on Long’s political fortunes. In a resignation announcement, Long said "Because I love and care for this city and community, I cannot in good conscience continue my service.” Long’s name will still appear on Tuesday’s ballot for a City Council post. His arraignment on the DUI charges is set for December 11th. Story Date: November 1, 2014
