Poll: California voters buck national trends
SAN FRANCISCO – (INT) – In a nation increasingly voting Republican, California is an exception. That’s the upshot of an analysis by the California Field Poll.

Republicans made sizeable gains in both the Senate and the House. But in another exception, the Inland Empire’s seven member congressional delegation has a Democratic majority for the first time in decades by a 4-3 margin.

The Field Poll analysis showed it was voters in the liberal coastal counties that gave Democrats a sweep in this month’s statewide contests. Conservative-leaning Riverside and San Bernardino counties showed their disfavor of Governor Brown and gave a thumbs up to his Republican challenger Neel Kashkari.

The most recent Field Poll showed slightly more California voters believing the state is heading in the right direction than seriously off on the wrong track, and that over time it was trending in the positive direction.
