Response to deadly apartment fire debated
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) Mayor Carey Davis is denying assertions that there was a delay in responding to an apartment fire last week that killed two children because of budget reductions.

The claim was made by the Professional Firefighters Association.

Mayor Davis said late Monday that the first engine was on scene within 7 minutes and 42 seconds from the time of the first dispatch. Davis said that is consistent with the fire department’s performance both before and after any budget reductions.

The mayor added that ‘The actions of the firefighters association to politicize the deaths of children for their own advantage is reprehensible.” Davis said an independent full-review of the incident will address any further public concerns.
