Clean up continues ahead of next storm INLAND EMPIRE - Weak high pressure is holding off the next stormy onslaught until later in the week. Fair weather with some high clouds will cover the Southland through Wednesday. An incoming Pacific storm is pegged to strike Friday with rain, mountain snow, strong winds and colder temperatures.
Meantime, cleanup from last week's storm in the Hemet-San Jacinto area continues. Roards are being cleared in the Gilman Springs area of mudslides unleashed by torrential rains early Thursday. Calfire Captain Lucas Spelman said a thunderstorm sent water, rocks and mud 5-feet deep onto Soboba Road and Gilman Springs Road. “There was 2˝ to 3-inches of rain in just a few hours. The mud and water was just everywhere.” And, that spelled consequences for motorists and residents of the area. “We rescued 40 people out of their vehicles and we evacuated eight people from their homes,” Spelman said. In Hemet, damage from flash flooding is becoming more apparent. The torrents invaded several homes undermining block walls and closing Florida Avenue until Thursday afternoon. In Riverside, a tree fell onto a home crushing a patio. In spite of the intense storm, there have been no injuries. The rain could be an opening strike against the drought.
