Colonies trial set back until fall, 2015
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – A trial date in San Bernardino County’s Colonies corruption case has been set back to the fall of 2015.

The four defendants have hired new lawyers who said they need time to review transcripts and prepare their case. Prosecutors objected.

Superior Court Judge Michael Smith Friday ordered Jeff Burum to return January 23rd for a hearing.

Three former county officials, Paul Biane, Jim Erwin and Mark Kirk, won’t be back in court until April 17th pending the outcome of an appeal of the judge’s previous rulings.

The four men are accused of participating in a bribery case that led to a $102 million settlement paid by the county in a land development case.

All four defendants have pleaded not guilty and deny wrongdoing.
