Ex-UCR student stands trial in theater massacre
CENTENNIAL, COLORADO – Onetime UC Riverside student James Holmes is about to stand trial for the 2012 shootings in a Colorado movie theater. Twelve people died at 70 were injured.

A jury is being selected to determine his sanity at the time of the incident.

Then-Chancellor Timothy White discussed Holmes’ studies.

“He was an honor student. Academically, he was at the top of the top. He distinguished himself from an academic point of view during his 4-years with us, graduating with highest honors. The fact that he was a student at UCR is a collateral fact, but is not germane to what happened in Colorado.”

Holmes earned a BA at UCR and had been in a Ph.D program at the University of Colorado.
