Ontario airport supporters await spring trial
ONTARIO – (INT) – Backers of an effort to return control of Ontario International Airport to the city are undaunted by a court ruling that favored Los Angeles on two key points.

A Riverside judge upheld the 48-year-old Joint Powers Agreement that gave Los Angeles World Airways control of the airport. Judge Gloria Connor Trask ruled the agreement ‘complied with applicable statutes’ and that a 4-year statute of limitations applied for any changes.

Ontario wants to void the agreement contending that Los Angeles failed to promote the airport boosting its economic importance to the Inland Empire.

Ontario Mayor pro Tem Alan Wapner expressed disappointment Thursday, but was looking forward to a jury weighing the city’s three remaining claims over breach of contract.

“Ontario looks forward to its day in court and for Los Angeles to be held accountable for its inexcusable neglect of its obligations to promote air service development at Ontario. At trial, Ontario will seek damages and an injunction to regain control of the airport. While Ontario continues to vigorously prepare for trial, we also will consider whether to appeal the court's decision,” Wapner said in a statement.
