Aftershocks follow M5.7 earthquake
EUREKA – (INT) – Aftershocks ranging up to M4.3 have followed Wednesday's moderately strong M5.7 off-shore earthquake was felt across a wide area of Northern California.

It’s epicenter was about 13-miles from Punta Gorda or about 41 miles southwest of Eureka in the Pacific Ocean.

No significant damage has been reported.

It occurred in the same under-sea area when an M6.9 quake occurred last March.

USGS geologist Brian Atwater has studied the epicenters.

“It’s what we call a ‘triple junction’ because it brings together three tectonic plates. It’s a very busy place in terms of earthquake activity.”

It’s the northern terminus of the San Andreas Fault.
