RIVERSIDE – (INT) – An aging electrical junction box malfunctioned causing the weekend fire that destroyed the Living Word of Riverside Church.

Investigators said Monday the box in the attic failed starting the early morning fire.

“It was accidental and there was nothing suspicious”, Captain Tim Odebralski said.

The $2.5 million fire destroyed most of the historic 1920’s church located near 11th Street and Cedar Avenue. Only some classrooms and a storage room were saved.
