Riverside County crime trends downward
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Crime in Riverside County has been going in two directions, violent crime is up but property crimes are down.

Sheriff Stan Sniff issued 2014’s crime stats Thursday for 17 ‘contract’ cities and the unincorporated areas. Violent crime was up 3.5% but, overall crime was down 4.5% thanks to a sharp reduction in burglaries. Property crimes slid 5.1%.

Sniff singled out the Hemet-San Jacinto area where crime plunged nearly 14% last year. He cited a steady increase in patrol staffing for the improvement.

Sheriff Sniff said the impact of voter-approved Proposition 47 last year has yet to be determined. It reduces penalties for certain offenders convicted of non-serious and non-violent property and drug crimes.
