Engineer in Oxnard Metrolink crash dies
OXNARD – (INT) – The Metrolink engineer critically injured in last week’s collision with a truck died Tuesday.

The engineer, who was an employee of Amtrak, had worked in the rail industry for more than 40 years. He was the longest tenured engineer among Metrolink operators. Metrolink declined to release his name. But, the coroner identified him as Glenn Steele, 62.

Doctors were able to revive him after he suffered two heart attacks shortly after the mishap, but he succumbed in a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday.

Steele lived in the Riverside County community of Homeland.

Twenty-seven other people aboard the Metrolink train were hurt, three seriously. They are recovering.

Meantime, Ventura County prosecutors are reviewing the circumstances of the collision at a grade crossing. The truck driver who fled before the impact has been freed pending results of the investigation.
